NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh’s industry is returning to its roots with an active wear manufacturer planning to relocate from the Bronx soon.
The Accelerator, a component of the Orange County Industrial Development Agency, is establishing its latest facility at 605 Broadway in Newburgh, originally a women’s coat factory.
Ziel, an active wear manufacturer, will occupy the entire 14,000-square foot building, which will employ 50 people by 2020, said Accelerator Chief Operating Officer Laurie Villasuso.

“They are a community-minded company,” Villasuso said. “They
are actually a public benefit corporation, so it is in their DNA to be
a good community member from the sustainability aspect, but also one of
their tenets is equal employment opportunities, a small eco-footprint.”

The Accelerator was formed as a business incubator with facilities first in New Windsor adjacent to Stewart Airport. It later opened a center in the City of Middletown and now is facilitating the relocation by Ziel, a three-year-old company.
Villasuso said with plans to manufacture clothing for customers in as short a time as two to three days, the Ziel location to Newburgh could result in support and supply companies also locating in the vicinity, creating additional jobs.
