POUGHKEEPSIE – Petty Officer First Class Corey Ingram was born on Smith Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.  His father, Jack, noted that during Thursday’s dedication of a new traffic circle on North Smith, at the intersection with Creek Road and Salt Point Turnpike, to his son’s memory.
Ingram was one of nine sailors who died when their destroyer collided with a cargo ship near Singapore last September.
“It’s hard to tell the difference where, I said this a couple of times, where family and friendship ends but everyone here is a family member, because that’s why you’re here,” Ingram said.
Mayor Robert Rolison also spoke of the family of Poughkeepsie.
“We lost our native son.  We lost a hero. But, we’ve gained a family and the City of Poughkeepsie is lucky and honored and blessed to have the Ingram family now so much more part of the fabric of this great city.”
Rolison said the traffic circle and sign with Ingram’s name, a short distance from Dutchess Community College, will be seen by thousands of drivers every week.
