WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County is beginning a formal discussion of how to share services among the county, its municipalities and school districts as other area of the Hudson Valley have already done.
County Executive George Latimer’s first step is to hold public hearings on June 14 in Yonkers and Mt. Kisco to hear what residents have to say about the possibilities.
“We are tasked by state and federal governments to doing certain kinds of things and the people in Westchester County expect to see certain kind of services and the question is how do we deliver those services, not which particular jurisdiction does it and the concept of we’re a corporate entity and we are only worried about our corporate entity and we don’t worry about the other corporate entity is not in keeping with what our residents expect,” Latimier said. “They expect us to find ways to work together, do the things we are supposed to do, efficiently.”
It was noted there are some shared services already taking place in Westchester, notable the Village of Mount Kisco police coverage being handled by Westchester County Police, providing expert protection at a savings of $500,000 per year if the village had its own police force.
