MONTICELLO – The reconfiguring
of Quickway Exit 106 that came with construction of Sullivan County’s
casino is attracting some thought of trying again to do something with
a long vacant and decaying property.

The latest idea would not directly involve the old Apollo Mall site in
Thompson, but County Manager Josh Potosek said it would involve adjacent
land.

Potosek said they have an Albany engineering firm doing some early work
on what could be a substantial project.

“We’ve engaged an engineering firm, Creighton Manning, the
required third-party cost estimates for a shovel-ready corporate park
behind the Apollo Mall.”

Potosek, Commissioner of Planning and Environmental Management Freda Eisenberg
and County Legislator Alan Sorensen, whose district includes the site,
did a recent walking tour and say it is a “very viable piece of
land” because of water and utilities already in the area, and the
close access to Route 17.

In a related action, the county legislature, meeting as Executive Committee,
voted on Tuesday to transfer all related parcels back to the county from
the Sullivan County Funding Corporation.

Final action is needed at the legislature’s monthly session on Thursday.
