Site clearing underway

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Construction has begun on a four-story Holiday Inn Express hotel at 589 East Main Street in the Town of Wallkill.
It will be located on a 43-acre parcel behind a Quick Chek convenience
store not far from Orange Regional Medical Center and Route 17 exit 122
at Crystal Run Crossing.
Developer Mark Devitt said the $12 million, 93-room hotel, which will
be open by May 2019, should help fill the need for additional guest rooms
in the area.
“There is a deficiency of hotel rooms and now, especially with Legoland coming into the county, we think that need is only going to increase,” Devitt said.
The Devitt company secured a mortgage fee exemption and sales tax exemption on building materials from the Orange County Industrial Development Agency.
Site supervisor Mark Ewald, from Hospitality Builders, said all construction jobs will be filled with Hudson Valley residents; five are currently on site, and that should grow to at least 40 before the laying of the foundation is complete.
This is the second Holiday Inn Express constructed by the Devitt family business. Mark and his father, Ed, the founder of the company, built their first one on Route 208 in Montgomery.
The Devitts have also developed 42 Super 8 motels from Pennsylvania to Maine and sold all but one, in Ithaca.
They are also planning a mixed use project with 167 condominiums and 66,000 square feet of commercial space along Route 211 in Montgomery.
