TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Vassar College will purchase 15 percent of its electricity through a community solar project in Esopus through BQ Energy.
The college is striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
This spring the college will also be installing solar panels at the Vassar Barns, home of the Environmental Cooperative.
The solar arrays will not only reduce the college’s carbon footprint and provide new educational opportunities, but will also save the school money on its utility bills. Alistair Hall, Vassar’s sustainability coordinator, said total savings the first year are estimated at $20,000.
Vassar President Elizabeth Bradley called the project a win-win for the college and for the environment.
