Sullivan leads state in job growth

ALBANY – Fueled by the new jobs created when the casino opened in February, Sullivan County’s employment grew by 9.5 percent during the 12 months ending in April, the state Labor Department reported on Thursday.
The second highest job growth rate in the state was in the Ithaca Metro Area at 3.0 percent.
The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division experienced job growth of 2.2 percent while Ulster County saw 1.9 percent growth.
Columbia County followed right behind with 1.8 percent growth while Greene County saw a 1.0 percent in jobs and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had 0.5 percent new jobs.
For the 12 months ending in April, jobs in the Hudson Valley grew by 1.1 percent, or 8,800, to 798,600.
Gains were largest in educational and health services; natural resources, mining and construction; leisure and hospitality; professional and business services; and other services.
