CHESTER – Over 100 members of law enforcement including local, ATF and FBI members, converged on the Chester Academy in the Town of Chester early Tuesday afternoon when a student reported seeing a man with a gun. The Chester Academy and elementary school were placed in lockdown.
The situation remains under investigation, but there was apparently no weapon, said Chester Police Chief Daniel Doellinger.
“We are not sure that it’s a hoax as much as possibly a miscommunication. The student who reported it is from the BOCES special ed wing that exists in this building.”  Doellinger said that particular student was notified ahead of time because he had experienced issues with prior drills.
Superintendent Sean Michel said they had scheduled a lockdown drill, but he couldn’t say if this incident was related.
