GOSHEN – A Thomasville, North Carolina man was sentenced to eight years in state prison along with 10 years of post-release supervision in connection with the sexual abuse of his wife’s granddaughter.
Stanley Allen, 69, had pled guilty in December 2017 before then-sitting County Court Judge Nicholas De Rosa to criminal sexual act, but was sentenced by County Court Judge William DeProspo who expressed reservation that the eight-year sentence was too short.  He honored the earlier promise rather than allowing Allen to withdraw his guilty plea, which would have forced the young victim to testify at a trial.
Allen was married to the victim’s maternal grandmother and was essentially a de facto grandfather figure to the child, who called him “Pop Pop.” He used to own property in the Town of Wallkill, where, during summers, the child was dropped off while her mother was working. During those times, he took the child to a detached garage on the property and sexually abused her.
Although the child has memories of Allen’s sexual abuse going back to age six or seven, he pled guilty to a charge arising from an incident in the summer of 2013, when the child was 10 years old.
The abuse ended when Allen moved out of New York State.
