PORT JERVIS – For the second time in three days, a person died
of a drug overdose in the Port Jervis area and in each case, arrests were
made of people who allegedly provided narcotic drugs prior to their deaths.

In the latest incident, a 30-year-old Sparrowbush man was found in a residence
in the early morning hours on Saturday, April 21 suffering from an apparent
heroin overdose, police said.

Hours later, police arrested Patrick Shevlin, 28, of Montague, New Jersey
on a charge of felony criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was
also charged with criminal possession with intent to sell.

The additional charges stem from Shevlin being found in possession of
270 individual packets of heroin when arrested on West Main Street in
the City of Port Jervis.

Port Jervis City and State Police investigated and made the arrest.

Shevlin was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Just days before, on April 19, a 28-year-old Port Jervis man was found
dead in that city from an apparent overdose.

Police arrested Katelyn Smith, 23, of Port Jervis, and Gloria Bruno, 62,
of Glen Spey, on drug charges. Bruno allegedly provided Hydrocodone to
Smith, who allegedly gave it to the victim.

Both of those women were remanded on $50,000 bail.
The offices of the Orange County District Attorney, Sheriff and Medical
Examiner assisted in the investigation.
