WHITE PLAINS – A total of 120 firearms were turned into law enforcement at the state attorney general’s White Plains office during a gun buyback program on Friday.
The weapons were accepted with no questions asked with money, in the
form of gift cards, given to those who turned them in.
Since Attorney General Eric Schneiderman launched his statewide gun buyback program in 2013, close to 1,700 weapons were turned in statewide.
“These buybacks mean less guns in our homes and on our streets – part of our broader efforts to keep New Yorkers safe from gun violence,” Schneiderman said.
The program cost is paid for through criminal forfeiture funds that were seized from drug and gun traffickers by the AG’s organized crime task force.
Friday’s gun buyback include three assault weapons, 44 handguns, 40 rifles and 33 non-working or antique guns.
