FISHKILL – State Police said a 28-year-old mother and her 10-month-old-son
were the victims of the deadly pedestrian-car crash on Route 52 near old
Glenham Road in the Town of Fishkill Sunday night.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Zuleyma Lopez and her son, Abel Torres,
who were crossing Route 52 at 8:40 p.m. along with three other children.
They were transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
Troopers said the 53-year-old driver of a 2003 GMC Yukon truck, a resident
of Fishkill, was westbound on Route 52 in the center turn lane of the
three-lane road. He failed to see the mother and her four children attempted
to cross the road from the north shoulder and struck them.
The driver remained at the scene.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation and anyone with
information is asked to call the State Police at 845-677-7300.
