Columbia County drug dealers nabbed

HUDSON – Several drug arrests were made this week by the Columbia County law enforcement.
On Tuesday, March 20, the sheriff’s office, Hudson City Police and state Parole executed a search warrant at the Hudson Terrace Apartments in Hudson and seized 160 grams of cocaine, some $12,000 in cash, a vehicle and two handguns, one of which was reported stolen from another residence in Columbia County and the other was defaced. The investigation is continuing and charges are forthcoming.
On Wednesday, March 21, Ashawn Abbotto, 42, of Chatham, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies and state parole officers. He was found to possess some 17.5 grams of marijuana. He was charged with felony possession of marijuana and was sent to the Columbia County jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
On Friday, March 23, sheriff’s deputies and the Columbia Greene Shared Services Response Team executed search warrants at 29 Prospect Street in the Village of Philmont and at the Yorkshire Motel in Claverack. Police seized a large amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia and cash.
Timothy Simpson, 43, of Philmont and Evan Kravitz, 36, of Claverack, were charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance. Kravitz was committed to the Columbia County Jail without bail. Simpson is held in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
The arrests are the result of a more than six-month investigation.
