New casino drives up Sullivan County jobs

ALBANY – The new Resorts
World Catskills casino in Kiamesha Lake drove up Sullivan County’s
new jobs by 9.2 percent when comparing February to the same month of last
year.

The casino has hired approximately 1,000 people and with other projects
under construction, including the nearby indoor waterpark, those numbers
are likely to go even higher.

Sullivan tops the state in terms of job creation in February.

The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division came in second in the Hudson
Valley/Catskills with a 3.6 percent increase in jobs.

Greene County rose by 2.9 percent while Columbia County jobs grew by 2.5
percent.

New jobs in Ulster County rose by 0.9 percent while in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester
Metro Area, jobs rose by 0.1 percent.

Private sector jobs rose by 7,200 or 0.9 percent, to 781,200 in February.
Jobs were added in education and health services; professional and business
services; natural resources, mining and construction; other services;
and financial activities.

Job losses were centered in trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure
and hospitality.
