GOSHEN – A proposal to provide state funding for an armed school resource officer in every school in the state is expected to receive support from the Orange County Legislature.
A proposal will be on Wednesday’s Rules Committee session, sponsored by Legislator Kevin Hines.
“I also sit on the police advisory board and it was the opinion of the police advisory board that there should be a police officer in every school and that would be both a determent and a protection issue and make the kids feel safe,” Hines said. “It would be a win-win, but at a significant cost.”
The local lawmakers are hoping the state will include the proposal in the 2018-19 state budget being debated now. The budget is due March 31, a deadline often not met.
