NEW CITY – Rockland County’s rating as the healthiest county in the state helps it focus on areas that could use improvement. One area that stands out in the data is housing with 27 percent of residents reporting severe problems, and that has stayed fairly consistent for the past few years.
The Rockland Codes Initiative was developed to tackle housing issues.
County Executive Edwin Day launched the program three years ago to combat health, housing and fire safety issues, and is responsible for identifying various neighborhood concerns ranging from illegal apartments, sanitary code violations, overcrowding and unsafe living conditions.
Complaints are investigated by the county health department.
