TOWN OF WALLKILL – A proposal is before Wallkill Town officials to convert the Holiday Inn hotel on Crystal Run Road into Resource Recovery of Orange County, a facility to aid people with rehabilitation and detoxification from drug and alcohol addiction.
Donna Mae Depola, who has been in the field for 27 years, is teaming up with the owner of the Holiday Inn to convert the facility into a 190-bed treatment center. She would hope to open it in the fall, starting with 50 beds.
Depola said the center will be unlike any others in the region.
“We are thinking of having a veterans’ track, which is a very important piece as my brother was a Vietnam vet, my father was a vet with post-traumatic stress disorder. We are going to try to do a little first responders track, a track for women, a track for women and children. We want to make it individualized care, which we feel is really the most important part of treatment.”
Depola expects no resistance to the plan as the building is in a commercial
area with no nearby housing and is directly across from the State Police
Troop F headquarters.
There will be two public sessions at Wallkill Town Hall on March 21 and 22, both at 7 p.m., to explain the proposal to town residents.
