ALBANY – Sullivan County had the highest job growth of any county in the Mid-Hudson/Catskill region during the 12-month period ending in January.
The state Labor Department reported on Thursday that the number of new jobs in Sullivan grew by 2.0 percent.
Columbia, Greene and the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division each saw jobs increase by 1.9 percent.
Jobs rose by 0.4 percent in Ulster County but fell by 0.2 percent in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area.
Region-wide, jobs grew by 1,600 or 0.2 percent, to 774,000.
Jobs were added in education and health services; and professional and
business services. Job losses were centered on trade, transportation and
utilities; information; manufacturing; and leisure and hospitality.
The labor department said while the region’s private sector job count continued to expand in January, the pace of job growth slowed considerably. The 0.2 percent job growth was the weakest January growth since 2010.
