WASHINGTON – Two former congressmen who passed away in the past 15 months – Maurice Hinchey and Benjamin Gilman – will be eternally honored if Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney has his way.
Maloney will propose legislation renaming the Middletown Post Office in honor Rep. Benjamin Gilman, a life-long resident of Middletown, who represented Orange County in the House for many years. Gilman died in December 2016
Maloney’s bill would also rename the Hudson Valley National Heritage Area in honor of Congressman Maurice Hinchey of Saugerties whose vision created the heritage area. Hinchey passsed away last November.
The incumbent will formally announce the two naming at events on Friday.
