Victor Work

KINGSTON – Victor Work, the former Ulster County elections commissioner
who resigned last year to spend more time with his family, has died.

The woman who replaced him in that role, Ashley Dittus, delivered the
sad news Thursday evening.

“His devotion and legacy to the Ulster County Democratic Party is
profound,” she said in an email. Dittus said he was the founder
of the county Democratic Committee Coordinated Campaign, “a trusted
advisor to party tent poles Congressman Maurice Hinchey and County Executive
Mike Hein.”

Dittus said Work was “warm, kind and fair. He always had a story
to tell and the best ones we shared over a drink, preferably Glenlivet.”

Hein said he has lost a good friend with the passing of Work. “It
is heartbreaking; he was an extraordinary individual.”

Hein said Work was “fighting courageously against a terrible disease.”
Work’s wife, Mary, is a Surrogate Court judge.
