ALBANY – The Town of Palm
Tree is scheduled to be established in January 2020, but State Assemblyman
James Skoufis (D, Woodbury) and Senator William Larkin (R, Cornwall-on-Hudson)
have introduced legislation to move up the date to January 2019.

Merging a portion of the Town of Monroe with the Village of Kiryas Joel
to create the new town will also result in the realignment of the Monroe-Woodbury
Central School District to conform to the new geographic boundaries.

In the short-term before the annexed land is developed, the school district
has determined there will be a financial shortfall unless special state
aid is provided.

That aid is being pursued in this year’s state budget, which is
due on April 1.
