Power lines wee brought down by strong winds, ice and snow
MID-HUDSON – High winds coupled with snow, sleet and rain downed
power lines and knocked out electricity to thousands of residents of the
Hudson Valley and Catskills and claimed one life on Friday as a nor’easter
rolled into the region.
In Putnam Valley, high winds brought a large tree down onto a house on
Dunderberg Road killing an 11-year-old boy.
Central Hudson, Orange and Rockland and NYSEG crews worked all night long
to restore power to the tens of thousands of customers who were left in
the dark.
Sullivan and Putnam counties declared states of emergency. Sullivan received
several inches of snow and strong winds that brought down trees and power
lines.
Putnam lost power to large areas of the county because of strong winds.
While areas of Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties received heavy snow,
the greater Middletown area was spared with just a dusting.
