Jersey man arrested for vehicular manslaughter in Sullivan County

MAMAKATING – A Dumont,
New Jersey man has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter
in connection with a fatal accident on Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating
on September 7, 2016.

State Police said Alekos Patentas, 34, was driving a 2015 BMW M6 at a
high rate of speed when he struck the rear end of a tractor-trailer resulting
in the death of Carrie Ganley. The 36-year-old woman, a resident of Bayville,
New Jersey, was a passenger in Patentas’ vehicle.

After an extensive investigation, it was determined that Patentas was
impaired by drugs while driving. He was remanded to the Sullivan County
Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The State Police at Wurtsboro were assisted by the Sullivan County District
Attorney’s Office during the investigation.
