NEW YORK – Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks named Kathie Davidson as administrative judge of the Ninth Judicial District on Friday.
That district includes Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.
The appointment was made with the approval of Chief Judge Janet DiFiore after consultation with Justice Alan Scheinkman, presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, and Judge Davidson’s predecessor.
Davidson has been serving as supervising judge of the Family Courts in the Ninth Judicial District for the past 11 years during which time she spearheaded a range of innovative initiatives. She is the first African-American to serve in that position.
Davidson was first elected to Westchester County’s Family Court in November 2003, designated as acting Supreme Court justice in 2007 and re-elected to the Family Court in 2013.
Prior to her judicial career, she was a deputy county attorney with the Westchester County Law Department. Before that, she was an attorney for the child with the Juvenile Rights Practice of the Legal Aid Society of Bronx County.
