BEACON – The dozen paid Beacon firefighters have a new contract
now that the city council has approved the two-year pact.

The previous contract with members of the Beacon Permanent Firefighters
Association, Local 3490 of the International Association of Firefighters
expired on December 31, 2017. The new agreement is retroactive to January
1, 2018 and extends to December 31, 2019, said Mayor Randy Casale.

The agreement adds 2.5 percent to each firefighter’s base salary
retroactive to January 1 for this year and another 2.5 percent in 2019.
That is the same percentage increase as the city’s other unions
received.
Casale said the pact is fair and equitable for the union members and
the city.

In addition to the 12 paid firefighters, the city has 26 volunteers including
one female, said Chief Gary Van Voorhis.
