NEW PALTZ – The Town of New Paltz would like to adopt the same affordable housing law as that adopted some time ago by the Village of New Paltz.
Town Supervisor Neil Bettez said the law requires a certain percentage of housing in individual projects to be affordable.
“That consists of if there are more than 10 units being built in an apartment or in a housing subdivision, one of those units out of that 10 has to be designated as affordable and there is a formula that is part of the law to define what is considered affordable, but it is based on the greater Kingston metropolitan area definition of what is affordable,” he said.
Bettez believes the town can craft a local law and adopt it before the end of the year.
