Solomon still must pass a
civil service exam

NEWBURGH – Former Beacon Police Chief Douglas Solomon will be named Newburgh police chief on a provisional basis. He will be required to take an open competitive civil service exam when it becomes available.
Solomon served most recently as Beacon City Police chief and before that as Monticello Village chief.
His appointment in Newburgh will end several years of acting chiefs named from among the ranks of the lieutenants in the department.
Newburgh City Manager Michael Ciaravino chose Solomon because of his
extensive background in the diverse communities where he previously served.
