GOSHEN – A Fort Morgan, Colorado man was arrested Sunday morning for possession of a loaded AR-15 assault rifle following a motor vehicle accident on Route 17 in the Town of Goshen.
State Police from the Town of Wallkill barracks responded to the highway and determined Jeffrey Burns, 35, had driven his pickup truck off the road and struck a car parked on the shoulder.
It was determined that Burns was intoxicated. Further investigation revealed the loaded weapon as well as several magazines and several hundred rounds of ammunition.
Burns was charged with three counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon and a misdemeanor of DWI. He is to the Orange County Jail without bail.
