Perry: “… racism is still very prevalent”

BEACON – Keeping Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream alive includes
engaging the youth in what the civil rights leader stood for and that
was a theme at the Beacon ceremony on Monday.
Society is trying to keep the dream going, but “we have not arrived,” said Pastor Dr. Ronald Perry.
“Because we as African Americans might have thought that when we elected a black president, the former president, the 44th president, Barack Obama, that we might have been thinking that racism would cease,” said Dr. Perry. “The current president is letting us know that racism is still very prevalent.”
The event went beyond the subject of civil rights to include issues of lifestyle and diet.
