GOSHEN – To Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, a former police officer, every day is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD). On Tuesday, police officers around the country where honored as national Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was held and Hoovler, Sheriff Carl DuBois and County Executive Steven Neuhaus stopped off at several local police stations to say “thank you” to the officers for their service.
Hoovler said the day was another way to show support for the men and women in blue.
“Policing a free society is the most difficult job there is and a lot of times people really don’t tell their local police ‘thanks’,” Hoovler said “They do a lot of things from investigating a stolen bicycle to showing up when someone is hurt to investigating crimes to just being there as a presence in the community and being a good role model for kids.”
LEAD is a nationwide day of support for police officers, established by the organization Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) to recognize the positive impact that law enforcement officers have on the community.
