O&R crew replaces utility pole in frigid temps
MID-HUDSON – Electricity usage by Orange and Rockland Utilities’
customers for the period of Saturday. January 6 through Sunday, January
7 broke the record for highest weekend energy use for that period.
In Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation territory, on Friday, January
5, natural gas customers broke the record for gas usage.
In O&R territory, a new record of 36,916 MWh was set, exceeding the
previous weekend record of 34,881 MWh for January 7 through 8, 2006.
The highest sendout on record for January 6 was this past weekend at 18,737
MWh. The previous record was set on December 31, 2017 with 17,874 MWh.
The highest Sunday sendout rate was on January 7 with 18,179 MWh; the
previous record was set on December 31, 2017 with 17,416 MWh.
With everyone staying inside with the frigid temperatures last weekend
using electricity for heat and to power entertainment devices saw O&R
break the peak demand record on January 6 with 906 MW; the previous record
was 881 MW on December 19, 2009.
Central Hudson’s natural gas usage on January 5 was 137,498 thousand
cubic yards, breaking the previous record of 136,709 thousand cubic yards
set on February 13, 2016. Then on Saturday, January 6, 2018, customers
set a second record in as many days, using 141,183 cubic feet to heart
their homes and businesses in response to the extreme winter weather conditions.
To keep electricity and natural gas usages down as much as possible, both
utilities say you should practice conservation measures.
