RHINEBECK – A Clinton Corners man was killed when his SUV crossed into the opposite lane of travel on Slate Quarry Road in the Town of Rhinebeck on Wednesday afternoon and hit a propane truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Francis Scelta, 77, who was driving an SUV. The driver of the propane delivery truck, William Mitchell, 59, of Pawling, was not injured.
While no propane leaked, a small amount of diesel fuel leaked from a fuel tank.
Slate Quarry Road near White School House Road was closed for five hours for investigation and hazmat cleanup.
