NEWBURGH – The Firefighters Burn Treatment Fund of Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess Counties has lent its support to Newburgh City firefighters who were injured in the November 20, 2017 fire and explosion at Verla Industries in New Windsor.
The firefighters were trapped and burned in the secondary explosion that occurred while they were searching for a missing employee.
The Fund supports firefighters who suffer burns received in the line of duty in the form of immediate funds to handle expenses not covered by workers’ compensation. The fund assisted three of the burned members.
Acting Chief Terry Ahlers said all eight firefighters injured in the Verla are hoping for full recoveries.
