MIDDLETOWN – Three years after Hurricane Irene flooded the Maple Avenue Park and Monhagen drainageway in Middletown, the city is going to receive $2.8 million in federal HUD disaster relief funds.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the mitigation work can now begin.
“Finally, the plans are completed; we have been authorized to bid the project,” the mayor said. “The bids will be back in February and construction will begin this spring. That’s positive news, the money has been appropriated and the project will begin.”
The Orange County Community Development Office headed by Director Richard Mayfield, and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney advocated for the funding that will alleviate the flooding problems.
