Nyack firefighter dies in line of duty

NYACK – A Nyack firefighter is reported to have collapsed and died following an emergency call on Monday morning.
According to several reports including from the Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association and First Responder Network, the victim, identified by First Responder as David Jahnes, 50, became ill at the scene of an odor investigation and was transported to Nyack Hospital where he later died.
Firefighters had responded to a report of a chemical spill at a North Broadway, Nyack bank Monday morning that turned out to be a battery in the bank’s alarm system overheating, according to reports.
