Tree cutting underway, despite protests

WAWAYANDA – Santa Claus joined opponents of the CPV electric generating
plant and the Millennium Pipeline lateral that is in the early stages
of construction, Monday, to oppose the total project.
About two dozen people, carrying signs stating their opposition to the plant and the gas line, cheered Santa on as he presented his “naughty and nice” list.
“Naughty? Governor Cuomo, CPV, the Valley Lateral Pipeline,” Santa said. As for his Nice list, Santa included bald eagles, bog turtles, and Indiana bats.
The group Hudson Valley Earth First has established a tree-site blockade with a tree-sitter near the tree removal site in hopes of stymieing the effort.
Opponents of the pipeline project maintain it is breaking the law by allowing trees to be cut down near the eagle’s nest.
