STORMVILLE – If you were driving on Interstate 84 westbound in
Dutchess County on Thursday afternoon, chances are you sat in bumper-to-bumper
traffic at a virtual standstill for hours.

A tractor-trailer went out of control and jackknifed on the highway in
Stormville closing not only the interstate but Route 52. The rig jumped
a guiderail on a bridge that carries I-84 over the state road.

State Police said the driver of the truck was uninjured.

Interstate 84 was closed at exit 17 Ludingtonville Road from 1 p.m. until
5:30 p.m.

One motorist stuck in the traffic said it was backed up for at least 18
miles to the Danbury, Connecticut line.
