Bonelli at sentencing

TOWN OF WALLKILL – The gunshot incident at the Galleria at Crystal
Run in the Town of Wallkill was not the first time someone fired a gun
inside a major Mid-Hudson Valley shopping center.

Police are not sure if this past Sunday’s incident, in which a single
gunshot was fired into the floor on the second level of the Galleria,
was accidental or intentional. Two people sustained minor ricochet injuries
as a result.

The shooter has not been located at this point.

Back on Sunday, February 13, 2005, a lone gunman entered the Hudson Valley
Mall in the Town of Ulster and opened fire with an AK-47 type assault
rifle. In the process, Robert Bonelli of Saugerties fired 50 to 60 rounds
and stopped only to reload when he was tackled by a nearby person.

Two people were wounded in that incident.

According to the state correctional services website, Bonelli, who was
sentenced to 32 years in prison, has been incarcerated at Green Haven
Correctional Facility since May 23, 2006 on a conviction for two counts
of assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

The earliest date he could be released is July 12, 2032 with a maximum
sentence release date of February 10, 2037.
