BREWSTER – Dozens of people arrived early and stayed late for Putnam County’s first Art, Writing and Music Gala at the Studio Around the Corner in Brewster.  Friday evening’s grand opening displayed artwork created by veterans of Putnam County that included paintings, photographs and sculpture.
Throughout November readings from poetry and other written works by veterans from the county’s Writer’s Workshop as well as from the book “Hero’s Highway” will take place.
John Bourges, program coordinator of the PFC Joseph Dwyer Vets2Vets Program in Putnam, thanked the audience for attending the opening night. He reminded the public that on Veteran’s Day from 12 noon to 2 p.m. a special musical program is planned at the studio followed on November 18 by poetry and readings. On November 25, artwork will again be available for viewing.
“Truly special,” is how Studio Around the Corner Executive Director Judy Marano described the evening. “Anytime we can herald our veterans is a special occasion and the studio is so proud to have played a small part in this celebration.”
