KINGSTON – An Esopus man was indicted by an Ulster County grand jury on two charges of vehicular manslaughter in a September 14 incident in which his SUV struck and killed a man on a bicycle.
John Ronk, 40, hit Brian Jones, 41, of 208 New Salem Road, about 1,000 feet from Ronk’s residence at 272 New Salem Road. Ronk’s vehicle had veered into the opposite lane of traffic and struck Jones from behind, throwing him from the bike.
Ronk’s blood alcohol content was over .18 percent at the time of the crash at 7:30 p.m.
Investigation revealed both Ronk and Jones were traveling in the same direction towards Port Ewen at the time of the collision.
