TOWN OF NEWBURGH – State Police arrested a hamlet of Wallkill man on a murder charge.
After a lengthy investigation, Christopher Smith, 43, was charged on
Tuesday in the death of a man in the Town of Newburgh. Smith was sent
to the Orange County Jail without bail.
The arrest stemmed from an investigation by State Police at Highland into a missing person.
Troopers executed a search warrant at a residence on Quaker Street where human remains were recovered.

Cherise Bain lives not far from the location where the remains were found on Quaker Street.
“It is terrible, shocking, extremely unsettling,” Bain told Mid-Hudson News.
State Police were assisted by the Orange County District Attorney’s
Office, county medical examiner and Plattekill Fire Department.
