Pres. Trump

POUGHKEEPSIE – A new Marist College poll finds that 58 percent
of Americans believe President Donald Trump will go down in history as
one of the worst presidents in the nation’s history. The poll also
found that 11 percent believe he will be thought of as either an above
average president and seven percent believe he will be considered one
of the best presidents in US history.

The opinions fall along party lines with 88 percent of Democrats believing
he will be remembered as one of the worst leaders. A total of 48 percent
of Republicans say Trump will be remembered as one of the best. Among
independents, 60 percent believe he will be remembered as a below average
leader.

A total of 37 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance
in office while 55 percent disapprove. He maintained his Republican base
with most, 82 percent, approving of his job. A total of 87 percent of
Democrats and 59 percent of independents disapprove.

Among those who identify as conservative or very conservative, President
Trump’s approval rating is 76 percent.

A majority of Americans doubt the propriety of Trump’s dealings
with Russian President Vladimir Putin with 55 percent thinking Trump has
done something illegal.

On the subject of Trump’s tweeting, 69 percent of those polled consider
that to be reckless and distracting.

“Deep into his first year as president, Donald Trump’s less
than stellar approval rating has lowered expectations about how history
will judge him,” said Dr. Le Miringoff, director of The Marist College
Institute for Public Opinion. “For history to treat him kinder,
he will have to up his game.”
