GOSHEN – A Newburgh man was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge
Nicholas De Rosa on Monday to 18 years in state prison and five years
of post-release supervision in a connection with the shooting death of
another man. That sentence was ordered to run consecutively to a two-year
prison sentence he received on an unrelated gun charge on Staten Island.

Devin Isaac, 18, pled guilty on July 27 to manslaughter in connection
with the killing of Deandric Little, 29, on August 1, 2016.

Little and another man had gotten into a brief argument with Isaac nearby
and at the end of the argument, the third man told Isaac to shoot Little.
The victim, who was unarmed, was shot once in the torso.

Another person drove Little to the hospital, but he died later.

After the shooting, Isaac fled the area and was captured three weeks later
on Staten Island, where he was in possession of a gun, which was not the
weapon used in the homicide. That gun was never recovered.

“The City of Newburgh will be safer during the two decades that
this defendant is incarcerated,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
“Those who think they can escape the consequences of having engaged
in senseless violence by attempting to hide from law enforcement are sadly
mistaken. Law enforcement is making progress in combating violence in
Newburgh, but there is still a long way to go. My office will continue
to work with our law enforcement partners to use every lawful means at
our disposal to prevent gun violence,” the DA said.
