It took 20 minutes to extricate one of the victims

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – Five people were injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash on Tonetta Lake Road in Southeast that pressed emergency responders from throughout Putnam County into action.
The accident took place around 2 p.m. near Blackberry Drive and involved a van driven by a woman whose passengers included two handicapped individuals and a pickup truck with two occupants.
The Brewster Fire Department responded along with ambulances from Brewster, Carmel, Patterson and Mahopac and two paramedics from the EM STAR Ambulance Company.
The victims were all taken to Danbury Hospital. The driver of the van was pinned in her demolished vehicle. It took firefighters nearly 20 minutes to extricate the woman with the Jaws of Life.
Tonetta Lake Road was closed for over an hour until the wreckage was removed and the accident investigation completed.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Putnam Sheriff’s Office, Brewster Fire Police, Putnam Battalion 13 Coordinator Jamie Gagliardo and a representative of the Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services.
