Memorial Elementary School

MIDDLETOWN – A doctor of philosophy in Massachusetts has an offer in to the Middletown Enlarged City School District to purchase the shuttered Memorial Elementary School on Linden Avenue in the City of Middletown.
The school district owns the building which has been closed for some
10 years. Xia Yang of Winchester, Massachusetts has made a concrete offer
to the school district to purchase the building. Superintendent Dr. Kenneth
Eastwood said the building would be restored for educational purposes.
“There is a mixture of things they want to do but I would assume based on their conversation that it would be more focused on music-related activities and instruction,” he said.  Since the building has sat unused for a decade, Eastwood said it will take considerable resources to bring the facilities up to date. “I would think there is going to be some substantial work in order to put that building into shape for a school or for any use, for that matter, but they are willing to tackle that building and make sure that it meets any of the code requirements that are required in order to educate children in that building.”
Eastwood would not disclose the purchase price until the school board approves the sale, which may come as early as tonight.
