Lopez starts federal job next week

ALBANY – Assemblyman Pete Lopez takes over as regional administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency next week.
The Republican lawmaker is looking forward to assuming the role as steward for the New York-New Jersey-Puerto Rico-Virgin Islands region.
“As a steward we have an obligation to protect our resources, use
them wisely, but we also have the obligation to make sure the resources
are used effectively to feed and clothe our people, provide for their
sustenance and survivability over time,” he said. “We have
abundant natural resources and we need to use them, but use them wisely
so that future generations can also share in their abundance.”
Lopez, whose father’s side of the family has roots in Puerto Rico, said he wants to play an active role in aiding residents get back on their feet following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
