MONTICELLO – A Minnesota man is in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on charges that he stabbed another man in the face during a fight in the Village of Monticello.
Brian Padin, 25, of Ely, Minnesota, was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, obstructing governmental administration and three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance as misdemeanors.
The incident occurred mid-afternoon Thursday when village police responded to the intersection of Broadway and Pelton Street where they found a 21-year-old Monticello man lying on the sidewalk bleeding heavily from a laceration to his face. He had been stabbed in the face with a folding knife by Padin during an altercation between the two, police said.
The victim was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center then transferred to Westchester Medical Center.
Video surveillance from a nearby Broadway business recorded the incident and helped officers identify Padin, who was located on Fulton Street and taken into custody.
Padin was also found in possession of cocaine and hydrocodone when arrested. He also refused to cooperate with officers during processing at the Monticello police station.
