Woman charged with leaving companion dog to die

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A 35-year-old
Walden woman has been arrested on charges of cruelty to animals after
she allegedly left her dog in a locked car at a motel in the Town of Newburgh.
The female Staffordshire Terrier named Zelda, died from exposure to the
extreme heat having an internal body temperature of 110 degrees, Hudson
Valley SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Division reported on Friday.

Jamie Conroy-Nugent was arrested following an investigation conducted
after a hotline report of the dog in the vehicle with no ventilation and
temperatures above 90 degrees.

Conroy-Nugent must return to Town of Newburgh court next month.
