Man leads police on wild chase on Rt. 17, I-84

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Warrensburg man is under arrest in the Orange County Jail following a State Police chase on Monday evening.
Troopers initially spotted a car at 6:20 p.m. on Monday wanted in connection with a New Jersey burglary.
The driver, Michael Masonius, 25, was westbound on Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill. Police initiated a traffic stop, but he failed to comply and a pursuit began continuing west on Route 17 until he exited at 121W onto I-84 westbound.
While on I-84, Masonius crossed the median several times driving in the opposite lane, putting several drivers in danger. During the pursuit, he also attempted to pass an ambulance, hitting the rear and sideswiping the passenger side.
The pursuit ended when State Police maneuvered the vehicle into the center median of the interstate. Masonius exited the car and a brief foot pursuit ensued before he was taken into custody.
Masonius is charged with reckless endangerment, assault, menacing a police officer, criminal mischief, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property, reckless driving, obstruction of governmental administration, and misdemeanor drug possession.’ He was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
