GOSHEN – The Orange County Heritage Trail, which runs from Goshen
to Monroe, has been extended south to the Village of Harriman.

The trail “is one of the most popular recreation destinations in
the county,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus.

County Legislator James DiSalvo said the trail is “a great economic
engine for Orange County and enjoyed by so many residents.”

The additional two miles added to the trail were funded with $375,000
from the county capital project budget. It now runs for about 14.5 miles
with some 150,000 people using it annually for running, biking, hiking
and environmental and nature studies. It may be accessed in Monroe, Chester
and Goshen.

Work will begin next year to extend the paved trail northbound by 10 miles
from Goshen to Middletown.
